The Public Arts Grants program provides support for new creative work and interactive experiences in the City of Bloomington. Potential projects include installations, exhibits, performances, readings, exchanges, and other happenings. The review committee is particularly eager to support projects that involve partnerships between the campus and local organizations as well as support community engagement and interaction. See these sites for good examples:


All tenured and tenure‐eligible faculty members as well as MFA students and graduate students in other relevant fields at IU Bloomington. All projects must be approved by the City of Bloomington; a member of the City administration will be a part of the review committee for projects.

Required Materials

  1. completed online application form
  2. project narrative, rationale, and budget explanation (2-3 pages)
  3. completed budget form
  4. project timeline
  5. letters of support from unit head and community partners
  6. cv or resume for all project members

Funding Duration

  • Budgets should be one‐time amounts to be expended over one day, one week, or multiple weeks.
  • Projects will be completed in either spring (March-June) or fall (July-October).
  • The Public Arts Grants program does not provide multiple-year awards.


November 13 for spring projects and March 13 for fall projects.
