Objective

This program seeks to support research at Indiana University Bloomington that develops new ideas to the point where they can effectively garner new external funding. The goal of this program is to support development, expansion and enhancement of research by faculty at Indiana University Bloomington, and help fund individual and collaborative research that is in line with major national funding programs.

Proposals are encouraged in the life sciences and human health; energy environmental science and sustainability; social, behavioral, learning, and economic sciences with special focus on programs outlined in the NSF Mosaic, information technology and excellence in professional school research. Proposals focused on the development of teaching or academic programs will not be accepted.

Eligibility

See Call for Proposals for general criteria and additional information.

Eligible:

  • All tenured and tenure-eligible faculty members of Indiana University Bloomington
  • Medical Science faculty on the Bloomington campus
  • Emeritus faculty members who are still active in research, but some budgetary restrictions may apply. (Check with fiscal officer.)

Not Eligible:

  • Visiting and adjunct faculty members<
  • Staff scientists (support---oriented positions)
  • Research scientists
  • Post-doctoral research associates

Award Amount

In general, the total budget should not exceed $75,000, including fringe benefits. However, up to $250,000 will be considered for facilities, equipment, or large scale collaborations.
